Born in Rome (Italy) on 13 August 1960, she obtained a degree in Political Sciences from the Luiss University in Rome) in 1983 and a Master in Business Administration from CBS - SDA Bocconi in 1986.
She served as executive board member in several boards of directors of the IKEA Group and in boards of several non-profit foundations and organizations.
From January 2016 to September 2017, she was appointed as Secretary-General of the United Nations and served as co-chair, together with the President of the Republic of Costa Rica, in the UN High Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment.
She has been the CEO of IKEA Switzerland from 2010 to 2019.
Since October 2019, she played a global role for the Ingka/IKEA Group and led the initiative called “The future of work”, with the purpose of requalifying most of the workforce (168,000 employees) by supporting the transformation of the business model and optimizing the benefits of the investments made in automation and digitization.
Previously, she had held several roles in IKEA Italy and other multinational companies as Senior Executive and HR Director.
From 1.9.2020 she assumed the position of Global CEO of EDGE Strategy AG.
She is the author of the book “The Other Half”, published in July 2019.
In 2009, she founded Valore D, an organization that promotes gender balance and an inclusive culture for the growth of business and the Country, and in 2013 she co-founded Advance Women in Switzerland to promote women’s empowerment in business, being the president of both organizations.
